Finger et al. (1988) studied an unusual MYC rearrangement in a human leukemic T-cell line derived from a patient with Sezary syndrome whose serum contained antibodies to human T-cell leukemia virus type 1 (HTLV-1). Translocation between chromosomes 2 and 8 was present in the cell line. They found that a locus derived from chromosome region 2q34 was attached to the 3-prime end of 1 MYC allele. The t(2;8) rearrangement in this cell line resulted in expression of a fused transcript encompassing the MYC gene and a locus designated TCL4 (T-cell leukemia/lymphoma-4). Presumably, the rearrangement was involved in the pathogenesis of the malignancy.
