HGNC Approved Gene Symbol: NOS2P2
Cytogenetic location: 17p11.2 Genomic coordinates (GRCh38): 17:18,497,090-18,503,285 (from NCBI)
Using a bovine NOS II-related cDNA to screen 2 human genomic libraries, Bloch et al. (1995) isolated clones containing 3 independent genes. One clone encoded the previously identified gene NOS2 (163730), which they called NOS2A. The other 2 genes specified amino acids homologous, but not identical, to those specified by the NOS2A gene; these were designated NOS2B and NOS2C (NOS2P1; 600720).
By Southern blot hybridization, Bloch et al. (1995) demonstrated that the NOS2A, NOS2B, and NOS2C genes are located on chromosome 17 between bands 17p13.1 and 17q25.
