HGNC Approved Gene Symbol: HTR5A
Cytogenetic location: 7q36.2 Genomic coordinates (GRCh38): 7:155,070,324-155,087,392 (from NCBI)
Rees et al. (1994) cloned the human serotonin receptor subtype HTR5A from genomic DNA. HTR5A encodes a deduced 357-amino acid protein with 7 transmembrane domains. RT-PCR analysis indicated that HTR5A is expressed exclusively in the brain, at higher levels in adult than in fetal tissues. No expression was seen in any peripheral tissue tested.
Rees et al. (1994) determined that the HTR5A gene contains 2 exons.
Schanen et al. (1996) used PCR analysis of somatic cell hybrid panels and a collection of chromosome 7-specific YAC clones to map HTR5A to 7q36.1.
