Gene: [03q21/MCM2] minichromosome maintenance deficient (S.cerevisiae) 2 (mitotin); cell division cycle-like 1 (mitotin); DNA replication licensing factor MCM2 (nuclear protein BM28); [CDC19 CDCL1 ]

FUN

The MCM genes were originally identified in yeast defective in minichromosome maintenance and have since been shown to play roles in the progression of the cell cycle (many are cell division control genes). MCMs 2 through 7 are thought to be "DNA licensing factors" which bind to the DNA after mitosis and enable DNA replication before being removed during S phase. The encoding genes are: GEM:06p/MCM3; GEM:08q112/MCM4; GEM:22q13/MCM5; GEM:02q21/MCM6; GEM:07q2/MCM7."
