Gene: [03q2/ATR] ataxia telangiectasia and Rad3 (S.pombe) related; FRAP-related protein 1; [FRP1 ]

COM

The Rad3 gene of S.pombe is required for checkpoint pathways that respond to DNA damage and replication blocks. Bentley-1996 showed that Rad3 is the homologue of S.cerevisiae Mec1p and D.melanogaster Mei-41 checkpoint genes. Authors identified a novel human gene (ATR) whose product is closely related to Rad3/Mec1p/Mei-41 and human FRAP gene (GEM:01p362/FRAP1) involved in a rapamycin-sensitive pathway leading to G1 cell cycle progression. Cimprich-1996 also cloned this gene and assigned it to Chr 3q22-24."
