FHL1/SLIM1 is a developmentally regulated protein that is expressed in human skeletal muscle (Morgan-1995) and in a moderate level in heart (Lee-1998) but not in a variety of other tissues. The predicted 280-amino acid protein contains 4 LIM domains and a novel zinc-finger domain in the N-terminal region. FHL1 is unique when compared with other LIM-only proteins because it possesses an odd number of zinc fingers. By Northern blot analysis, FHL1 is expressed as a 2.3-kb mRNA in human masseter muscle (Morgan-1996)." |
