The polymorphic region in the 5'-vicinity of the gene is bordered by the coordinates -2500/-350 bp from the 5'-end. It includes two types of insertions/deletions: up to 0.5 kb (L allele) and up to 1.6 kb (U allele). Chakravarti-1986 identified the third class of alleles, up to 2.4 kb, and extended this locus to 20 kb within the UPS-vicinity of the insulin gene. This region contains minisatellites, and so the recombination frequency in this region is 25 times higher than in the genome on the average." |
