Gene: [16q221/CA7] carbonic anhydrase VII;
FUN | [1] CA7
catalyzes reversible hydratation of carbon dioxide: H(2)CO(3) = CO(2) +
H(2)O. Cofactor: zinc. [2] Systematic name: carbonate hydro-lyase." |

HIS | After the identification of this (chr 16) locus for carbonic anhydrase (Montgomery-1987), the confusion has been long existing as to its numbering among other carbonic anhydrase genes. The HGM and MIM Catalogues registered it both as CA7 and as CA4. The reason for this confusion is possibly the following: on one hand, this gene differed in the nucleotide sequence from three CA genes that were known then (and so the number is 4); on the other hand, its product was not succeded to identify with any known carbonic anhydrase isoforms (and so the number is 7)." |
