Codner EC, Griffin CE: Serologic allergy testing for dogs. Comp Cont Ed Pract Vet 3:237, 1996. An excellent review of serum allergy testing in dogs; many of the principles can be directly applied to the interpretation of feline serologic allergy test results.

Cohn LA: The influence of corticosteroids on host defense mechanisms. J Vet Intern Med 5:95,1991. For those interested in reviewing the effects of corticosteroids when used with standard vaccination practices, although the relevance of this to hyposensitization is not known.

DeBoer DJ, Saban R, Schultz KT, Bjorling DE: Feline IgE: Preliminary evidence of its existence and cross reactivity with canine IgE. In: Uirke P, ed: Advances In Veterinary Dermatology, vol 2. Oxford: Pergamon Press, 1993, p 51. An elegant scientific study.

Halliwell REW: Efficacy of hyposensitization in feline allergic diseases based upon results of in-vitro testing for allergen-specific IgE. J Am Anim Hosp Assoc 33:282, 1997. Results of a questionnaire answered by general practitioners who diagnosed 81 cats on the basis of RAST and clinical signs. In 75.3% of cases, an improvement of at least 50% was seen.

Middleton E, ed: Allergy Principles And Practice, 3rd ed. St Louis: CV Mosby, 1988. An outstanding reference text for those truly interested in allergic skin disease (there is a 4th edition).

Mueller RS, Bettenay SV: Long term immunotherapy of 146 dogs with atopic dermatitis-a retrospective study. Aust Vet Pract 26:128,1996.

Reedy LM: Results of allergy testing and hyposensitisation in selected feline skin diseases. J Am Anim Hosp Assoc 18:618, 1982. This was a landmark article. Reedy treated cases ofmiliary dermatitis and eosinophilic granuloma complex with hyposensitisation based on intradermal skin test results.

Willemse A, Van den Brom WE, Rijnberk A: Effect of hyposensitization on atopic dermatitis in dogs. J Am Vet Med Assoc 184:1277, 1984. Includes a placebo controlled study.
