Gene: [07q36/PTPRN2] protein tyrosine phosphatase, receptor type, N polypeptide 2; protein tyrosine phosphatase, receptor type, N-beta; islet cell antigen-related protein tyrosine phosphatase; phogrin;

COM

Cui-1996 used degenerate PCR to screen for protein tyrosine phosphatases (PTPs) in a human colon carcinoma cell cDNA library and isolated a novel gene of the receptor-type PTP family (FAM:PTP/00.0). They analyzed the sequence and found that this cDNA, termed IAR (for islet antigen-related), encoded a protein of 1,015 amino acids which was 43% identical to IA-2 (GEM:02q3/PTPRN), an autoantigen associated with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM)."

FUN

[1] Systematic name: protein-tyrosine-phosphate phosphohydrolase.
[2] Reaction catalyzed: protein tyrosine phosphate + H(2)O = protein tyrosine + orthophosphate."

FAG

This gene is homologous to another receptor-type PTP, IA-2 (GEM:02q3/PTPRN).

REL

See GEM:20p13/PTPRA.
