Gene: [15q24/RABPC1] retinoic acid-binding protein, cellular, 1; [RBP5 CRABP1]
COM | Fragiello-1997 refined the assignment of RABPC1 gene to Chr 15q24 and of RABPC2 gene (GEM:01q213/RABPC2) to Chr 1q21.3 by fluorescence in situ hybridization." |
NOM | In the HGM catalogues, this marker is referred to as the intracellular (according to its function) 'retinoic acid-binding protein' (RABP). Two other proteins with the similar function are known (RBPC1 and RBPC2); and two more have an 'interstitial' function (RBPI1 and RBPI2). Therefore, according to the HGM through numbering, these proteins binding retinol and its derivatives (retinene, retinoic acid) are named 'binding proteins 1-5' without an indication to 'function localization' in the standard code (in contrast to MIM). In order to coordinate these two approaches and keep the integrity of this group in the general list of genes, GEM has modified their names and symbols." |
