Gene: [02p13/TGFA] transforming growth factor, alpha; [TGF1 ETGF ]

FAG

Two transforming factor types are known that was isolated from various tumor cells and can reversibly transform cultured normal mammalian cells. They are referred to as alpha and beta peptides. The alpha peptides (truncated derivatives of a common precursor) share homology with epidermal growth factor (GEM:04q25/EGF) and possess affinity to its receptor (GEM:07p12/EGFR1), while the beta peptides (GEM:19q131/TGFB1) do not belong to this gene family."
