identified in human cells with the use of the murine MyoD1 probe.

[1] According to Braun-1989 (HGM10), chr 11 contains two independent
genes, MYOD1 and MYF3, with similar functions. Their structural
difference has not been proved yet; one of them (GEM:11p154/MYOD1) was
identified by the method of direct in situ hybridization on chromosome
with tha aid of murine MyoD1 cDNA, while the other was identified by
blot hybridization with somatic cell hybrid chromosomal DNA with the
aid of human cDNA. It is possible that it is actually the same single
gene that is dealt with. The HGM and MIM catalogues share this opinion
(the latter considers MYF3L1 as being identical to MYF3/MYOD1 in Chr 11p.
The GEM catalogue, basing on data of Henry-1989, has registered
a MYOD1-like sequence in Chr 11 (see GEM:11^/MYODL).
[2] Coding copies of three other related genes, which code for myocyte differentiation factors (MYF4 or myogenin, MYF5, and MYF6) are mapped in the human genome (GEM:01q/MYOG, GEM:12q21/MYF5, and GEM:12q21/MYF6, respectively." |

A gene for one rhabdomyosarcoma type (MIM:268210) is mapped in 11p15.5 (Scrable-1987) and is probably related to this locus. All the same, its relationship with other oncopotentiating loci in chr 11 cannot be excluded (see GEM:11p155/ADCR)." |
