Gene: [12p1/ELA1] elastase 1 (pancreatic);
COM | [1] The GDB
indicates only chromosomal but not regional localizatrion for ELA1. [2] The MIM catalogues indicate an old code for elastase 1 (EC_3.4.4.7)." |
FAG | There are three human elastase genes. [1] ELA1 codes for a serine proteinase that is synthesized by pancreatic acinar cells. It hydrolyses many proteins, including elastin (an unsoluble connective tissue protein; GEM:07q1123/ELN); [2] ELA2 was identified (cDNA was cloned and amino acid sequence of the protein was determined) and mapped to Chr 19 (GEM:19p133/ELA2); [3] ELA3 (NE; GEM:11q14/ELA3) is expressed predominantly in bone marrow promyelocytes; macrophage phagolysosomes serve only as a secondary depot. Therefore its conventional name NE (neutrophil elastase) is not quite correct." |
FUN | Elastase 1 but not elastase 3 activity is suppressed by alpha-1 protease inhibitor (antitrypsin; GEM:14q321/PI1)." |
