Gene: [19p131/PRKACA] protein kinase, cAMP-dependent, catalytic subunit, alpha;
MOP |
The holoenzyme of PRKAC, a tetramer consisting of 2 regulatory and 2 catalytic subunits, is inactive in the absence of cAMP. Activation occurs when 2 cAMP molecules bind to each regulatory subunit, eliciting a reversible conformational change that releases active catalytic subunits. Four distinct regulatory subunits have been identified: RI-alpha (GEM:17q2/PRKAR1A), RI-beta (GEM:07p22/PRKAR1B), RII-alpha (GEM:00.0/PRKAR2A), and RII-beta (GEM:07q22/PRKAR2B)." |

Since cAMP (cyclic adenosine 3',5'-monophosphate)-dependent protein kinase is a heterotetrameric holoenzyme consisting of two regulatory (R) and two catalytic (C) subunits, each of which occurs itself as two-three varieties, human genome contains a group of functional genes encoding the corresponding popypeptides. All of the genes are presented in the following table: -------------------------------------------------------------- PRKACA catalytic, alpha GEM:19p131/PRKACA 19 p13.1 PRKACB catalytic, beta GEM:01p361/PRKACB 01 p36.1 PRKACG catalytic, gamma GEM:09q13/PRKACG 09 q13 PRKAR1A regulatory I, alpha GEM:17q2/PRKAR1A 17 q23-24 PRKAR1B regulatory I, beta GEM:07p22/PRKAR1B 07 pt-22 PRKAR2A regulatory II, alpha GEM:00.0/PRKAR2A RS PRKAR2B regulatory II, beta GEM:07q22/PRKAR2B 07 q22 --------------------------------------------------------------" |
