Gene: [22q112/PRKM1] protein kinase, mitogen-activated 1; MAP kinase 1 (p40, p41); extracellular signal-regulated kinase 2 (p42);

FAG

[1] Mitogen-activated protein kinases (PRKMs, or MAPKs) are serine-threonine protein kinases that are activated in response to a wide variety of extracellular stimuli. They are part of complex protein kinase cascades. MAPKs are activated by dual-specificity MAPK kinases (MAPKKs; see GEM:05^/MEKK1; GEM:06^/MEKK4).
[2] The following genes coding for MAPKs have been found: GEM:22q112/PRKM1; GEM:16p112/PRKM3; GEM:18q/PRKM4; GEM:15q21/PRKM6; GEM:00.0/PRKM7; GEM:10^/PRKM8; GEM:05q35/PRKM9; GEM:21q21/PRKM10; GEM:00.0/PRKM11; GEM:22q133/SAPK3(PRKM12); GEM:00.0/PRKM13; GEM:06p21/CSBP(PRKM14,PRKM15)."
