Gene superfamily: troponins I; (TNNI1 TNNI2 TNNI3)

FUN

Troponin I is a constituent protein of the troponin complex located on the thin filament of striated (skeletal and cardiac) muscle and provided a calcium-sensitive switch for striated muscle contraction (see details in FAM:TNN/00.0). Troponin I binds actin (FAM:ACT/00.0) and inhibits actomyosin ATPase activity (FAM:MY/00.0) in the absence of calcium (Bhavsar-1996)."

STR

Three isoforms of troponin I are encoded by separate genes.
[1] The slow skeletal isoform is encoded by gene mapped to Chr 1: GEM:01q32/TNNI1.
[2] The fast skeletal isoform is encoded by gene mapped to Chr 11: GEM:11p155/TNNI2)
[3] The cardiac isoform is encoded by gene mapped to Chr 19: GEM:19^/TNNI3."

FAG

Troponin I is one of 3 subunits that form the troponin complex of the thin filaments of striated muscle; see also FAM:TNN/00.0. The others are troponin T (tropomyosin-binding; FAM:TNNT/00.0), and troponin I (inhibitory; FAM:TNNC/00.0)."
