Gene: [03p/TNNC1] troponin C1, cardiac and skeletal, slow; [TNCC TNC ]

COM

Bermingham-1995 mapped a gene (symbolized by them as TNNC1) to Chr 19q13.3-.4. Song-1997 indicated that this gene represented cardiac troponin I (GEM:19^/TNNI3). By PCR analysis, Song-1996 assigned TNNC1 gene to Chr 3p21.3-p14.3. Townsend-1997 confirmed the location to short arm of Chr 3 by somatic cell hybrid analysis."

FUN

The troponin C is a Ca(2+)-binding subunit of the troponin complex which serves as a calcium-sensitive switch for striated muscle contraction. See details in FAM:TNNC/00.0."

PEP

The amino acid sequence of human skeletal muscle troponin-C is established by Romero-Herrera-1976 and the amino acid sequence of troponin-C (consisting of 161 residues) from human cardiac muscle is reported by Roher-1986. The cardiac and slow-twitch skeletal troponin C are presumably identical (Romero-Herrera-1976)."

GEN

The gene length: 3 kb; exons: 6; introns: 5 (Schreier-1990).

FAG

Troponin C1 belongs to the same multigene family as calmodulins, parvalbumin, and others do (see GEM:14q32/CALM1, GEM:22q1/PVALB)."
